Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened

Episode #13

“In our everyday life we are so busy moving on to the next task or the next interaction with someone that it can feel like we never finish one thing before starting the next. A mindful goodbye allows you to fully absorb your experience so that it can become part of your learning.” — Gretchen Schmelzer, a psychologist and the author of “Journey Through Trauma.”

Saying goodbye can be hard, scary, and downright painful, right? I think about how many times we say goodbye in life, sending our children off to kindergarten for the first time or even away to college. We say goodbye to jobs, homes, pets, marriages, the list is endless! How do you take goodbyes? I will admit one of the hardest goodbyes I have had has been leaving my daughter in a city and college half-way across the United States! I cried for days! No matter what the goodbyes are they can be hard.

I remember dropping my oldest son off to kindergarten for his first day of school, my knees shaking and I was holding back my tears that felt like there was something on fire in my throat! I kept thinking, Je! My gosh! Keep it together would you please! You’re the adult here! I remember looking down at him and he was filled with excitement and here I was about ready to lose it and drop to the ground wailing in the hallway in front of a bunch of 5 and 6-year-olds! For real? What was wrong with me! I would see him in just a few hours!

“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard?” ~Winnie The Pooh

As you can see that we CAN feel this sort of pain in any and all situations, the sheer fact of simply saying goodbye to my son for a few hours left me a sobbing mess. (Pssst…. Fast forward to first grade, I had no problem! LOL! I was excited to have my time. Just had to throw that one in there!) IN TODAY’S EPISODE I shared a bittersweet announcement that today was going to be my last day doing this Dream Big Noon-Spirations Podcast. Although it made me sad to say goodbye, with the goodbye brings new opportunities and new adventures for 2018.

As we are leaving 2017 behind, what are those things in your life and/or business right now that you may need to say goodbye to? What things are not working that need to go to create more energy, vitality, and light for you in 2018? Just because you have to say goodbye doesn’t mean you failed. Remember, all things are working FOR YOU not against you. And when you understand that, you can fully step into expanding your happiness and reaching your dreams. Because, from that perspective, everything has a divine place even if it feels like it’s messed up!

What do you think? Do you think that you could take a step back and really look at the situations in your life where you have said goodbye, need to say goodbye, and will be saying goodbye and see the beauty in it all? I’m not saying it’s an easy thing to do, yet I do know that it is a self-loving and self-expanding thing to do.
